March CSR Twin Loops

PAA Cycling Club's March 2019 Club Supported Ride MARCH 17, 2019

We've updated our March Club Supported Ride to include TWO ROUTES!! Both routes begin and end at ENCANTO PARK.  One features an excellent climbing route for those whose plans were halted by Mother Nature on the CSR Lollipop ride. The other, an equally excellent route for those that enjoy a more flat riding environment.

Please Email Anthony Turgman, ride organizer, with any questions or concerns you may have and if you'd need to change the group you plan to ride with.

PAA's monthly rides are supported in part by:

First Wilshire Securities Management, Inc. and Polsinelli LLP

Join us for a new concept here at PAA. We have developed two different courses for our March ride.

The non climbing oriented ride. 46.1 Miles     Elevation gain 1.528'
Ride will start at Encanto Park, and feature an extended version of the Emerald Loop, which includes the Rio Hondo Bike path, one of my favorites which winds down along the San Gabriel Valley Airport and down to Whittier Narrows. We then cross over to the San Gabriel River Bike path heading north with a beautiful view of the San Gabriel Mountains ahead and an active environment for fowl along the river. You then turn east and follow a portion of the Montrose short Route which takes you back to Encanto for a wonderful PAA CSR lunch!

The climbing ride.   50 Miles.   Elevation gain 5,900'
Ride will start at Encanto Park as well and head up Highway 39 for a leg softening climb up to the second gate. There are two gates above East Fork. The first is 14.3 from Encanto and has 1,990' of elevation gain. Then the real run begins with a short 3.3 miles and 1,330' elevation gain to the Second Gate where you will have a SAG stop.  Once refreshed you return on descent on the wonderful clean and smooth Hwy. 39 to East fork and head east past Williams Village to the base of the Back of GMR climb. This section features 4.9 miles and a 1,440' elevation gain. This is a really challenging yet fun climb as it has lots of variations and turns before reaching the summit at Glendora Ridge Road. Then you will enjoy the amazing descent down GMR (Glendora Mountain Road) to the base then back to Encanto Park for a also wonderful PAA CSR lunch:

If we plan it right both groups will be there at the same time!

Guests are requested to donate $10 to help with support costs. Note: This is currently referred to as "fee". Until we get the wording worked out. :)

**OPTIONAL SHORTENED VERSIONS OF RIDES**

Flat Route participants can eliminate the extension once back at Santa Fe Dam (Mile 25) , go directly back to Encanto and shorten their ride by about 10 miles
for a total of 27 Miles.

Climbing route rated difficulty is about 7 out of 10.  Climbing route riders can shorten their ride by about 16 miles by eliminating the 'Back of GMR' climb by heading straight back to Encanto.
